poverty surrounds
people in clothes
worn several times
frequently washing
looking presentable
enough as not deter
those they ask
for food, for money
they live to gather
what they don’t have
searching for jobs
finding this is their only job
asking to survive
searching for a chance
wanting a break
from the struggles
given from their birth
