“The face that launched a thousand ships
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium.
(The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, quoted in Hope Moncrieff, 230)
There is a period of time just after the Bronz age where everything went dark and the dark ages began.
It is a messy time because it is mysterious how civilization seemed to disappear.
Even our NIH archives mention it might be the result of the Sea People.
Could it be connected to the Trojan War some archaeological people think maybe
Fact is a thousand ships did sail and a there was evidence of war at the site of Troy. Troy is modern day Ilium, huh which also sounds like Iliad. There is also evidence of a very beautiful woman.
I don’t care who portrays her now what I do care about is you all forget that a story can be retold by anyone, with their own perspective.
Homer just decided to write it down. It’s an oral history, told by several people. He was a journalist in the form of a poet.
Homer is the equivalent of Elton John writing Candle in the Wind
He took a beautiful lady’s story that everyone admired and turned it into a song.
Homer took a war and made Saving Private Ryan from it.
When you are a archeologist or anthropologist you have to make sense out of this

And this

And this

And finally this

Something happened.
Then stories were told.
Then Homer wrote a poem.
Then more stories were told.
They say fiction is always based on fact, could Harry and Sally be real? Maybe? But the stories told by the people in between the scenes definitely were. Seriously maybe somewhere sometime a person always ordered stuff on the side.
Could that be retold by persons of other cultures certainly, certainly because we all know love is universal and we also know fights start over the stupidest things.
