Heads or Tales

Standard

small and round
bronze, silver or gold
edged with ridges
one side tells
historical past
through symbolism
the other is the face
of individuals
bringing prosperity
to a country
by adding value
as these are
made and exchanged
through purchases
determining whether
the future will be
heads or tales

You Never Know

Standard

you never know
what that find is at the store?
who your friends are going to be?
where you are going to work?
possibly what your next meal is?

you never know
who you will marry?
what makes it work?
how or where you will live?
possibly making ends meet?

you never know
who is the next president?
what is the latest fad?
what are next months headlines?
possibly what your next picture is?

you never know
why is that hard to accept?

Tunnel

Standard

vast and open
for visibility
hugely extends
along the sides
though traveling
closer and closer
appearing before
any further step
is taken
a mountain
encapsulates
the path ahead
requiring an opening
hugging the trail
shaped for passage
dark and unknown
continuing carefully
until a beam
a golden ray
showing that this
condensed world
is only a tunnel

Mess

Standard

speaking a mess
words never
come out as intended
they are construed
causing miscommunication
for a persons
interpretation
stews meaning
into something that
had no hidden value
words meant as it
was started
before people
thought differently
making
speaking a mess

-Jennie Nawrocki

Crick

Standard

a crick trickling
through the city
guiding all through
its channels
origins unknown
began miles ago
through valleys
hills and forests
though even beyond
winding into place
there is a lake
fed from collaborative
collective petals
of water
coming together
streaming our way
providing multiple functions
supporting everybody
each in their own way

-Jennie Nawrocki

Evolving

Standard

hidden from view
for concepts
are interweaving
making that
which was normal
out of the center
and into extremes
confusing thoughts
strongly held
by relationships evolving
over years seemingly
redefined into
intimate romance
personal reflection
extreme support
only returns
mutual respect
from what was
hidden from view

-Jennie Nawrocki

Scenery

Standard

silently roaming
demonstrating caution
affecting others through
minimalistic efforts
for the presence subsides
giving a chance
to allow their
kinetic senses
revealing avenues
brought here
to explore
not forgetting
leaves rustling
marking boundaries
handsome enough for
broadening views
never known before

-Jennie Nawrocki

What Is It?

Standard

what is it?
perplexing the mind
revolving thoughts
as new ones
are added

what is it?
that stops everything
in order to think
about days happenings
into tonights dreams

what is it?
that binds forever
internal meanings
concepts revealed
forging loyalties

what is it?
corridor long and narrow
gaining momentum
short electric
zaps of concentration

what is it?

-Jennie Nawrocki

Blue Jay

Standard

its beak, angular in shape
though small in formation
sings with a fervor
soft sounds
to the human ear
surrounded by feathers
blue on the back
white in the front
a tuft sticks out upon the head
leading to a tail
seemingly longer than the body
perched on a delicate branch
it continues to sing
until a rustle is heard
causing the blue jay
to fly away

The Best Housemate

Standard

“Hey I saw you parked outside the Wing Dome, what did you get the buffalo or traditional?”

“Didn’t get either went into the video store instead.”

“But I saw your car outside the Wing Dome.”

“I know there weren’t any spaces so I parked there.”

“You must have gone inside, your car was out front!?!”

“You have never parked somewhere but really went to another store?”

“That is not the point, the point is I saw your car parked out front.  You had to have gotten some wings.”

“I didn’t.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“As much as it may have looked like I did, I didn’t go into the Wing Dome.”

“Where are your movies then?”

“They were a one night rental, returned them this afternoon before I went to work.”

“See I knew you were lying. Even if you did go to the video store doesn’t mean you didn’t go into the Wing Dome.”

“I am not lying. I haven’t seen you for two days, how do you know what I have done and what I haven’t done!?!”

“I know I saw your car parked outside the Wing Dome.”

“What will it take for you to believe me?”

“Nothing, I know what I saw.”

“And I know what I didn’t do.”

“You are a @%*$^.”

“You’re the best housemate.”
