a protective layer between
the thick skinned surface
facing upside down
towards the street top
walking as we intend
for there ahead reveals
our place of arrival
steps away
from where we began
in shoes of
man-made leather
possibly thigh high
or extremely thin
with a rubber soul
and a strip of fabric
stitched between toes
slipped on to fit
its style
adds to the outfit
and the comfort
adds to the walk
