Blue Jay

Standard

its beak, angular in shape
though small in formation
sings with a fervor
soft sounds
to the human ear
surrounded by feathers
blue on the back
white in the front
a tuft sticks out upon the head
leading to a tail
seemingly longer than the body
perched on a delicate branch
it continues to sing
until a rustle is heard
causing the blue jay
to fly away

Fire

Standard

small, invisible
contact made by
brushing together objects
sparks erupt
its projection unknown
combined with material
void of dampness
consuming items near
it slowly builds
flames appear
noticing their tyranny
the heat harnessed within
it builds momentum
raging so slightly
it provides comfort
edible food
giving many the ability
to survive in an
unbalanced world

Pulled Plug

Standard

with an email
saying thank you
with a story
began conversation
with a social network
discussions began

all the combinations
becoming a way of life
a business grew
with a need for destruction
the plug was pulled

stopping the emails
for your privacy
stopping the stories
for their staged interactions
stopping the voyeurism
for your benefit

for destruction became desire
I pulled away from you

Art on the Wall

Standard

a symbol here
certain colors present
designs familiar
voices heard before
words reprinted
silhouettes of figures
faces oh the faces
all in fused
intermixed treating
new works
wonderful art
priceless fortunes
viewed widely
open for interpretation
only the author
artist, creator
producer, developer
knows the connections

Lottery

Standard

find another way
tactics not viable
efforts pointless
words are nothing
actions are meaningless
as wrong builds
must find a way
overcome the nest
of obscenities
growing around
the lottery only
benefits one
as chances
diminish with each
probability is not
in your favor
even when winning
living in a world you had
no training to survive
the money goes quickly
if not used wisely
everybody still wants
easy money, they think
changing their ways
cloaking their
real intentions
for the only thing
they want is
what the lottery
seems to give

Appropriate

Standard

appropriate
they way we interact
the words we use
daily attire
general mannerisms
everything has a response
pulled from the mind
thought from the collective
past interactions
determining people
to find what is
appropriate

Relevant

Standard

seeing the world
vast in its cultures
separated by land and sea
borders define countries
though don’t inhibit
personalities reveal
inherent need
to gather respect
amongst the population
compassion spreads
from person to person
through daily interactions
unseemingly have
nothing important
except to take
that a maybe
the most relevant
impact of tomorrow

Gloom

Standard

gloom is not functional
as if the ceiling was
falling in
crumbling around
finding stability
reams of strength
through the rubble
using the unstable floor
as points to briefly
step towards a clearing
where gathering
a base of support
within and without
one deletes the mess
gloom before shattered

Evening In

Standard

the soft glow
fills the room
of the lights
stranded around edges
allowing for freedom
relaxation of conversation
getting to know someone
more intimately
than ever before
their dislikes and likes
amongst stories
experiences and revelations
allow people
to melt their walls
stripping the outside layers
until there is nothing left
except the bare souls
revealed to each other

It’s All About Timing

Standard

it’s all about timing
how the clock etches forth
each in its own increments
though every second
it switches position
with a sounding beat
circling its face
steady and efficient

people see the clock
for the time it tells
everything
when to work, eat, sleep
how long was their meeting
when will it be time
when should I proceed
encounter with others
how to interpret
their moves
respond within conversations
it’s all about timing

the invisible movement
governs our world
changes, seasons, days
it makes us young or old
giving us birthdays
every year
we want other to
have an excellent time
it is something
we can’t escape for
it’s all about timing
