Sloth

Standard

the head is heavy
when it takes on functioning
it shares with the heart
though the heart only
pumps blood
the head senses
heat, cold, and pain
it calculates movement
need for nutrition
remains active in
thought gains along
with organization
dispensing information
shutting down
when too much
take a break it says
now is the time
to relax

-Jennie Nawrocki

The Storm

Standard

energy of activity
the need to care
posses with each blow
one right after the other
fighting is no use
and the wind will
only become stronger
barricading within
is the only solution
maybe it will save
the structure
when the storm passes
though they took
what they needed
followed emergency
evacuation orders
and left it all there

Finding Friends

Standard

it wasn’t expected
finding friends
those helping
of which their
infallible support
kindles happiness
generated daily
some unseen
can only bare
to see my vivid
realities displayed
each day
and through night
ripening views
somewhat public
although completely
privately discreet
using this communication
merely standards
willingly born
amongst cooperation
friendship allows

-Jennie Nawrocki

Anticipation

Standard

relatively unsure
while outcomes
decided privately
for the future
is unclear
any action
is able to be
construed and twisted
surrounding thoughts
opportunities available
until a choice
is made
allowing efforts
of progress
momentum building
towards events
never imagined

-Jennie Nawrocki

Curtain

Standard

there they lay
against the opening
within the wall
paned in glass

their purpose
is to cover
all that can be seen
outside and in

some consider them
simple decorations
a single layer
carefully patterned

this thin material’s
translucent weaving
between worlds
reveals fuzzy movement

change the material
add another layer
fabric thick
rooms become opaque

blocking everything
from a double sided view
as though there are
no other worlds

a yank of a cord
twist of a rod
opens and closes
the dividing barrier

revealing only
what you want
enhancing views
along the way

-Jennie Nawrocki

Flavors

Standard

one item
was misunderstood
its flavor
gone bitter
who is its
rightful owner
could have it
been a friend
maybe closer
more intimate
possibly so
whoever it was
it has disappeared
from mixed up
levels of kindness
of which were
appreciated for
all different
flavors of love

-Jennie Nawrocki

5 Who Sat In A Pub

Standard

5 who sat in a pub
challenging one another
by being
by remembering
events seemingly
all generic
though really
extraordinarily complex
the radius of time
smothers unexplained
glorious scenes
of on and off again
nearly missed
encounters along
blatant labyrinths
with others
defining relationships
growing stronger
through discussions
carried at home
on journeys far away
and maybe some
can do magic
sung in memory rhymes
the architecture of lies
that lawyers debate
broadcasted on news
leaving it open for
artistic impression
to again be retold
by 5 who sat in a pub

-Jennie Nawrocki

Assembly Line

Standard

organic in nature
essential for living
pressed for information
within files of thought
never sleeping
though factories
of production
sending orders of movement
emotional of stature
regimental in their physique
comprises the individual
amongst others just like itself

-Jennie Nawrocki

Goose Bumps

Standard

torn jagged bits
quivering in anxiety
the gentle
membrane of tissue
allow pulsating blood
passing through
giving warmth
in the uncertainty
of the minds thoughts
outside
cold prickly bumps
of skins abscesses
from blood
flowing to its need
causing breakdown
of energy keeping
this vessel for action
wanting to be aware
needing to be aware
dreaming when
it is through
will all be well

-Jennie Nawrocki

Crackatowa

Standard

circle the circle
the red mound forming
trapped beneath
the surface
composition of dirt and oil
an enemy to the
flawless complexion
daily scrubs
didn’t help
block these intruders
they burrowed in deep
beneath the surface
trapping themselves
making their home
while the skin reacts
turns red, white and black
using natural defenses
are no match
squeeze, pinch, pop
more, again, press
we must be free
squeeze, again, pop
more, again, press
without a choice
it was forced to move
from its unwelcome
presence

-Jennie Nawrocki
