as a way to eliminate distractions
for once the call is answered
a conversation begins

as everything said
may not pertain to all
though may be
the most entertaining

under the surface
the depth of the water
conceals their
camelieon nature
gliding along
as to where there
were no obstacles
only to
remain stealth
while gaining
everything they need

mostly blanketed

of none
leaving the sun
to shine
rays of light
amongst the dark
the grey

loads of travelers
either short
or long distances
they protect
from raised curves
access to cars
rolling in the streets
for this

wide space
often laid
in blocks
with ramps
to cross
treacherous intersections
for persons
either single
or in a group
it provides a path
becoming your
golden avenue

they say something
through their
scratches and dents
marks of passages
as people walked by
though all may
be unseen
people have passed
or covered
for new styles
ways of living
though each season
with waves of temperature
swelling and
constricting
the fibrous material
that holds
each day’s tales
contributing to
several others
along the block
creating communities
oral and unspoken
history has given
from one person
to the next
all within the walls
of the buildings
on the block

for it is just
