BBQ

Standard

greasy sauce
delicious oh so delicious
shall I take a bite
of ribs curved
over a plate
grabbing the ends
delicately painting fingers
as the morsel
of gloppy goo
reaches my lips
openly awaiting
tender flakes of flesh
squirting juice inside
the edges of my mouth
serving as borders
failed without struggle
as the track marks
seem to spread on impact
leaving a trail
of spicy tomato bits
speckling the skin
in motion
while tasty pieces
are devoured within
vying for another bite
before the last is finished
even when covered
in the most delectable
greasy sauce

Heads or Tales

Standard

small and round
bronze, silver or gold
edged with ridges
one side tells
historical past
through symbolism
the other is the face
of individuals
bringing prosperity
to a country
by adding value
as these are
made and exchanged
through purchases
determining whether
the future will be
heads or tales

You Never Know

Standard

you never know
what that find is at the store?
who your friends are going to be?
where you are going to work?
possibly what your next meal is?

you never know
who you will marry?
what makes it work?
how or where you will live?
possibly making ends meet?

you never know
who is the next president?
what is the latest fad?
what are next months headlines?
possibly what your next picture is?

you never know
why is that hard to accept?

Tunnel

Standard

vast and open
for visibility
hugely extends
along the sides
though traveling
closer and closer
appearing before
any further step
is taken
a mountain
encapsulates
the path ahead
requiring an opening
hugging the trail
shaped for passage
dark and unknown
continuing carefully
until a beam
a golden ray
showing that this
condensed world
is only a tunnel

Mess

Standard

speaking a mess
words never
come out as intended
they are construed
causing miscommunication
for a persons
interpretation
stews meaning
into something that
had no hidden value
words meant as it
was started
before people
thought differently
making
speaking a mess

Crick

Standard

a crick trickling
through the city
guiding all through
its channels
origins unknown
began miles ago
through valleys
hills and forests
though even beyond
winding into place
there is a lake
fed from collaborative
collective petals
of water
coming together
streaming our way
providing multiple functions
supporting everybody
each in their own way
